It’s no secrete that I love a good coffee cake and this chocolate coffee cake might just be my new favorite version. It has everything you could want in a cozy bake — a rich chocolate flavor, an incredibly soft and tender crumb, and that irresistible buttery streusel topping that makes every bite feel extra special. Whether you’re serving it for brunch, dessert, or an afternoon treat with a hot cup of coffee, this cake somehow feels both indulgent and comforting at the same time.

What I love most about this recipe is how simple it is to make while still tasting completely bakery-worthy. The chocolate flavor is deep without being overly sweet, and the layers of crumb topping add the perfect little crunch in between bites. It’s the kind of recipe that fills your kitchen with the most amazing aroma while it bakes, making it almost impossible to wait for it to cool before slicing in. If you’re a fan of chocolate desserts and classic coffee cake, this recipe brings the best of both worlds together in one delicious cake.

How To Make Chocolate Coffee Cake
- First prepare the streusel. In a mixing bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, white sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, and espresso powder.
- Use a fork or your fingers to slowly add in the butter as you mix until crumbles form. Don’t overmix or the streusel will turn into a paste. Refrigerate while the batter is being prepared.
- Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, sour cream, vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Add in the flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder, white sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt then use a spatula to fold ingredients in until completely combined.
- Now evenly pour the batter into a well greased 9 inch springform pan then top evenly with chocolate streusel making sure entire cake including edges are covered.
- Bake for 55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- After the chocolate coffee cake comes out of the oven allow it to cool in the pan for about an hour.
- Once the cake has completely cooled, top with powdered sugar (if using) then slice and enjoy.
